Beaded Rings

This weekend I went on creative arting spree, starting with how to make a beaded ring with Carl. He was absolutely super patient, super kind and super nice. I never thought in a million years I would actually get "it" done, finish the "ring" or would be wearing it.

Note to all, I managed all three, got "it" done, finished the "ring" and am wearing "it" as we speak. I'm all for making some more, it's super fast to make and easy peazy when you get the knack. So this is a memo to all, when you think you can't do something, no worries, it's sometimes easier than you think when you stick to it. See now I'm even getting all sofical about it.

My motto for the day courtesy from Zig Ziglar :

It was character that got us out of bed, commitment that moved us into action and discipline that enabled us to follow through.

Given all the above, I got one semilicious ring out of the process.

From me to you - enjoy your day and we'll speak again soonish.

Homemade Marshmallows

For a great gift to make for friends and family and it's quick is homemade marshmallows.

It is much easier than what you think.
All you need is ......

3 packages unflavored gelatin
1-1/2 cups granulated sugar
1 cup light corn syrup
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 Tablespoon pure vanilla extract
Confectioners' sugar for dusting

What to do :
Combine the gelatin and 1/2 cup of cold water in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the whisk attachment and allow to sit while you make the syrup.

Meanwhile, combine the sugar, corn syrup, salt, and 1/2 cup water in a small saucepan and cook over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. Raise the heat to high and cook until the syrup reaches 240 degrees on a candy thermometer. Remove from the heat. With the mixer on low speed slowly pour the sugar syrup into the dissolved gelatin. Put the mixer on high speed and whip until the mixture is very thick, about 15 minutes. Add the vanilla and mix thoroughly.

With a sieve, generously dust an 8 x 12-inch non-metal baking dish with confectioners' sugar. Pour the marshmallow mixture into the pan, smooth the top and dust with more confectioners' sugar. Allow to stand uncovered overnight until it dries out.

Turn the marshmallows onto a board and cut them in squares. dust them with more confectioners' sugar.

It makes about 20 to 40 marshmallows depening on how you cut them. You can use cookie cutters to to your thing.

All in all it takes about 30 minutes to make and the cooking time about 5 minutes.
